What is Somatic Experiencing?
Somatic Experiencing (SE)® is a body-oriented approach to resolving traumatic stress, developed by Peter Levine. Rather than cognitively processing trauma, SE works with immediate body responses in the present and helps the nervous system find its way out of frozen stress reactions.
Who is SE suitable for?
SE is suitable for people with shock trauma (accidents, operations, assault), developmental and attachment trauma, and for anyone experiencing chronic stress, anxiety, depression or unexplained physical symptoms. People who have already tried other therapies often benefit greatly from SE.
How much does a session cost?
A session costs €90 (60 minutes). The initial phone call of approximately 15 minutes is free. Full details on the Fees page.
Does health insurance cover the costs?
Statutory health insurance (GKV) does not cover the costs. Many private health insurance plans and supplementary policies reimburse healing practitioner sessions partially or fully. Please ask your insurer about reimbursement for “Heilpraktiker – Psychotherapy”.
Are online sessions available?
Yes. Online sessions via video call are available and work well for most clients — whether you live outside Hamburg or simply prefer working from home.
What is the difference between SE and classical psychotherapy?
Classical psychotherapy works primarily with language and the cognitive understanding of experiences. Somatic Experiencing works additionally with the body and the responses of the nervous system. This makes it possible to process traumas that elude words — especially early or physical traumas.
Do I have to talk about the trauma?
No. In SE you do not need to recount the traumatic event in detail. The work takes place in the here and now — with what your body and nervous system are showing right now. Many people find this a great relief.
How many sessions will I need?
This is very individual. Some people notice significant change after just a few sessions; others I accompany over a longer period. There is no minimum — we look at what makes sense together.
How do I get started?
The easiest way is via the contact form or by phone. I will then arrange a free initial call. More about the process on the First Session page.
